On Saturday 3rd February Ruislip Dramatic Society took to the stage at Ickenham Village Hall to help in the fight
against cancer. The group hosted a Charity Gala Evening in aid of the Cancer
Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT) at Mount Vernon Hospital, with all profits donated to the cause. The evening included performances of: BETWEEN
MOUTHFULS and GOSFORTH'S FÊTE from Alan Ayckbourn's CONFUSIONS, and also incorporated live performances by
members of the group of pieces originally recorded by the society for Radio Mount Vernon.
Support for the evening was overwhelming, and the group soon found that this originally smaller studio production
had quickly become a sell-out performance! As preparations continued local businesses and organisations literally
fell over each other to assist with event, providing everything from publicity and sound equipment to raffle prizes
and even table decorations. Meanwhile with only four weeks to prepare the group rehearsed intensively to achieve
their usual high standard of performance.
By the time the evening arrived members of the group were concerned that audience members might be put off by the
cold weather, but instead they found themselves having to turn people away from a completely packed Village Hall.
The evening was a huge success, with a wonderful party-like atmosphere as the donations flooded in. In the interval
the audience enjoyed a buffet provided by the society, which led into an auction and raffle that added even more to
the sum being raised.
The group's final donation to the CTRT at Mount Vernon Hospital following the gala evening amounted to £1421.52,
an incredible achievement of which they were extremely proud. David Iggulden, Publicity Co-ordinator for the group
said: "We would just like to thank everyone, who supported us with the gala evening in so many different ways,
and helped us raise this fantastic sum for such a worthy cause".
